What Is the Card Lower Third?
A lower third is the most used graphic in video and most of them look like broadcast news from 2008. This one is a wide, short white card with an accent rail on the left, a bold name, a muted role line and an optional tag chip on the right. It slides in from the left edge, the rail draws down, the text settles and the chip pops. Because it shares the surface, type scale and colourways with every other element in this family, a name card in a video that also uses the chart and checklist elements looks like it came from the same design system, which is the thing most lower third templates cannot offer.

Placing a lower third safely in a vertical frame
The name lower third comes from horizontal broadcast, where the lower third of the frame is genuinely empty. In a nine by sixteen video, the bottom of the frame is where the caption text, the platform interface and the account handle all compete. Place the card above that zone rather than at the very bottom, roughly two thirds down the frame, and keep it on screen for three to five seconds, which is long enough to read a name and a role twice. If your video is captioned, check the card does not overlap the caption band; the captions editor shows both on the same timeline, so you can see the collision before you export rather than after.
Name, role and tag: what belongs in each line
The name line is the bold one and should carry only the name. The role line is muted and sized to hold a title and an organisation on one line, for example Head of Content at Northwind, which is more useful than a title alone when the clip travels. The tag chip on the right is optional and works best as a single short word or phrase that classifies the speaker rather than repeating their title: Guest, Founder, Part 2, or a topic. Leave the chip empty when it would just restate the role, because an empty chip is skipped entirely and the card reads cleaner without it.
How long should a lower third stay on screen?
Three to five seconds. That is long enough to read the name and role twice at a comfortable pace, and short enough that it does not sit over the speaker for the whole clip.
Can I hide the tag chip?
Yes. Leave the tag text empty and the chip is not rendered at all, so the card ends cleanly after the role line rather than leaving an empty gap on the right. Use the chip only when it says something the role line does not.
Does it work in a horizontal 16:9 video?
Yes. The card scales from its width, so a wider canvas gives it more room. In horizontal video the traditional lower-third placement works as expected, since the bottom band is not crowded by platform interface.
Can I match it to my brand colour?
Yes. The accent rail, the chip and the surface come from the colourway controls, and setting a colour by hand deselects the preset pill while keeping your value, so a brand hex code is one field away.
